A list of major projects on the go has been compiled by the Heavy Engineering Industry Reference Group (HEIRG) from publicly available sources. They are at various stages of implementation. HEIRG is a state-level partnership group between industry, unions and the Queensland Office of Advanced Manufacturing in the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation to further business opportunities and growth in the major project market for the heavy engineering, machinery, equipment and steel fabrication sectors in Queensland. The Mining Equipment & Services Council (MESCA) was formed in Queensland in 1995, a joint incentive of the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) and the Queensland Government. Both of these entities being keen to promote dialogue between suppliers to the mining industry and mining companies as well as promote Australian contents into the sector. Since its inception MESCA has provided a unique networking and information service to its members. Regular briefings are held in Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Brisbane, Newcastle / Maitland, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Briefings not only offer the opportunity to be informed of current projects but also the chance to network with other suppliers to the industry as well as key industry players. Recently an audit was undertaken on the industrial and commercial activity in the local government area of the Central Highlands. The Planning Schemes are statutory documents that set out Council’s intention for each area’s future development. They contain information about the zoning of land, identify specific criteria for development in constrained areas and detail the provisions that relate to the development of land uses. The Central Highlands Regional Council currently has four current Integrated Planning Act (IPA) Planning Schemes that are in force over the former local government land areas of Bauhinia, Duaringa, Emerald and Peak Downs.
