Host Region & Venue

Host Region

Central Highlands, Queensland
The Central Highlands is situated in the heart of Central Queensland and extends over an area of 60,000 square kilometres. This prosperous and vibrant region has a diverse economy based on:

  • A globally competitive coal mining industry, with continuing expansions and developments,
  • Traditionally robust and resilient agricultural and horticultural industries, including beef, grain, cotton, grapes, melons and citrus,
  • Dynamic small and medium businesses,
  • Professional and government sectors, and
  • Availability of commercial, industrial and residential land.

Other competitive economic advantages include a growing tourism market, a booming regional airport and a concentration of government facilities and major health and education services.

According to the Central Highlands Development Register there are hundreds of millions of dollars allocated for community infrastructure development; retail and industrial investment; transport and tourism projects; and significant mining expansions. New projects are continually added to the register and this conference will provide valuable updates on the activities and opportunities within the region.

The region boasts sprawling national parks with towering escarpments and gorges, rainforest and waterfalls...take your time wandering the delightful walking tracks through Carnarvon Gorge, explore the Blackdown Tablelands or go fishing for Red Claw Crayfish at the Fairbairn Dam

Emerald, Queensland
Emerald is situated on the intersection of the Capricorn Highway and the Gregory Highway section of the Great Inland Way. One of the largest towns on the Central Highlands, Emerald is the regional centre for many government facilities including council, education, and health. Emerald is also the thriving hub for many diverse industries including mining, beef cattle, cotton, cropping, sunflowers, gemstones, tourism and citrus. With so much activity going on, there is always something to see and do around the town.

Conference Venue

Harvest Life Christian Church
Built in 2000, the Harvest Life Christian Church (9 – 11 Gladstone Street (crn Roberts Street), Emerald) is a preeminent function centre in the Central Highlands. Fully air-conditioned, the facility contains a main auditorium and multiple smaller training rooms. Free parking and disabled parking areas are available, with vehicle access from Gladstone Street.

Gala Dinner Venue
The Central Highlands ‘Investing in our Future’ BMA Gala Dinner took place at the premier event and cultural space of the Central Highlands, the Capella Cultural Centre (89 Peak Downs Street, Capella). Located about a 30 minute drive from Emerald, it provided an opportunity for delegates to experience more of the region. Since its opening in 1993, the centre has been the hub of a lively cultural scene that caters for all forms of visual and performing arts. Offering seating for up to 500, it has attracted world class performances from Midnight Oil to the Queensland Ballet; from Russell Crowe to Bud Tingwell and we were pleased to be able to add the name of Mr Peter FitzSimons AM to the list of those who have graced its stage.
